Reports To: Engineering Manager


The role will report to Engineering Manager working as part of Guinness Nigeria to develop, implement and maintain initiatives that deliver compliance to and improved performance against Environment legislation and Diageo’s Risk Management Policies, Strategy and Standards.

Significant impact on the maintenance system of the brewery.

Market Complexity
The Nigerian beer market is very complex with many competitors and a strong quality, cost and delivery focus. There is a need to constantly reduce cost of maintenance, while improving plant availability & reliability.


a) Will have to work across all functions both within the Brewery and across business to develop and implement initiatives. Will have regular contact with central Supply Governance Team, members of other Supply Centre Environment teams.


a) Will have contact with Environment regulatory bodies and Licensing Authorities as applicable. Will engage appropriate Environment consultants to support initiatives including training programmes

Purpose of Role:

The Environmental Officer is responsible for leading the development and delivery of the Environment agenda for the Brewery through the use of Risk Management processes & tools and the provision of access to expert resources to minimise the impact on the environment from the activities of our business, Protect the assets of the business, Facilitate cost effective risk solutions and exploit opportunities thereby supporting the creation of a culture of managed risk-taking in the day to day operation of the business.

Principal Accountabilities:

    * Enforce the required Environmental compliance to legislation and Diageo Standards for the site.

    * Promote the awareness of Environmental management throughout the brewery so that proactive Management is seen as an important business enabler.

    * Provide the business with expert advice and guidance on Environmental Control and Incident Management, ensuring the potential for impact from our activities is minimised.

    * Leading and participating in projects so that potential risk is mitigated through building appropriate controls into the design and implementation plans.

    * Analyse and report on Environment incident trends providing recommendations for improvement and sharing learning across the business to facilitate the achievement of zero unacceptable occurrences.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

The role holder should ideally possess a primary or secondary degree in a science or engineering discipline, plus a recognised Environmental practitioners qualification.

The individual should possess a minimum of 2 years professional industrial practical experience in Environmental Management with exposure to the following areas:

   1. Communications and employee / management influencing

   2. Systems & procedures    implementation

   3. Standards development

   4. Auditing

   5. Risk Assessment techniques

   6. Project Management

   7. An in-depth knowledge of the relevant Environment legislation is required.

 The individual should have a good understanding of risk assessment, auditing and incident investigation processes.

The individual must be computer literate.

Should be able to challenge and influence peers and seniors across Africa Supply business in an objective and constructive manner.
